President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered the Ministry of Education to ensure 10, 000 classrooms are built countrywide for junior secondary level.
Speaking during Mashujaa Day celebrations in Wangu'uru Stadium in Kirinyaga County on Wednesday, the President said the new classrooms will be built by local contractors.
"I direct the Treasury to allocate Ksh10 billion for the construction of the new classrooms," he said.

President Kenyatta also said the payments will be made directly to the contractors' accounts.
"This will ensure money circulates at a very local level and help build the economy," he added.
The President also called on the Members of Parliament to prioritise construction of classrooms and bursaries to students.
"This will ensure the 100 per cent transition started by my administration," he said.
