UDA party postpones grassroots elections to end of next month
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will hold its grassroots elections next month.
Party Secretary General Veronica Maina announced yesterday that the elections which were to be held on June 18 have been pushed to the last week of the month due to logistical issues.
“The elections date will however be dictated by the speed at which we register members.

We need to have numbers to hold elections. Registration is going well and we are hopeful that by the set date we will have registered a good number of members,” Maina said.
Party agenda
Maina spoke during a meeting for aspirants drawn from 11 counties to prepare them for the upcoming exercise.
They included those from Nairobi, Murang’a, Wajir, Kajiado, Machakos, Makueni, Mandera, Siaya, Nyamira, Kiambu and Garissa counties.
The next meeting which will bring together aspirants from ten counties will be held in Vihiga next week.
During yesterday’s meeting the aspirants were put through the party constitution, plans and agenda ahead of the 2022 elections.
The panel which included, Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok, Kandara MP Alice Wahome and economist David Ndii tutored the aspirants on the need to hold non violent campaigns and elections.
Ndii put them through the plans the party had on economic transformation of the country especially the “bottoms up” concept.
Nanok said the new party had embarked on well structured plans to win next year’s elections.
“Political parties are all about winning power and that is what we are planning. Winning and doing so peacefully,” Nanok added.
Wahome said the party’s intention is to bring all members together.

“We want to do things differently, not like the Jubilee Party which is controlled by a few individuals. We have learnt from these mistakes,” Wahome said.
As part of building the structures for the new party on whose ticket Deputy President William Ruto is expected to use, officials and allies are working to help the leadership constitute the party coordinators from the Constituency to County level ahead of the grassroots polls.
MPs have been tasked with mobilising their supporters at the grassroots to resign from other parties and join UDA as well as opening County, constituency and ward offices.
