The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has expressed optimism in clinching two seats in the upcoming by elections in Makueni and Meru Counties.

While issuing party certificates to the candidates on Tuesday, August 24 at its Hustler Nation headquarters in Nairobi, UDA officials claimed the party has won previous by-elections and would still do so in the upcoming ones if the rule of law prevails.

"We want to concentrate on politics without turning back. You have witnessed our victories in the numerous by-elections we've run in the country so far. We managed to beat our competitors in broad day light during the by-elections," former Machakos Senator and UDA chairman Johnson Muthama said.

The former MP further sent a strong message to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the National Police Service, asking the two bodies to ensure the rule of law is upheld during the elections.

"I want to ask IEBC and the security officers wherever they are to respect the rule of law of this land and allow Kenyans to vote freely without victimisation and intimidation," Muthama added.

Daniel Masika Mweu will fly the UDA flag in the Nguu ward, Makueni County while Simon Kiambi will battle it out for the party in the Kiagu ward Meru County by-elections.
