Tusker named among top popular beer brands in Africa

Tusker named among top popular beer brands.

RECOGNITION:  Tusker has been ranked the third most popular alcoholic beverage in Africa and the 73rd overall in Brand Africa 100: Africa’s Best Brands, the pre-eminent survey and ranking of the Top 100 most admired brands in Africa.

The rankings were announced in a novel global virtual event that incorporated the market openings of Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria.

Tusker made is third in the list behind Guinness of Ireland and Star Beer of Nigeria. 

The main East African Breweries Ltd brand, Tusker controls more than 30 per cent of the Kenyan beer market, selling more than 700,000 hectolitres per year. Tusker is also the Diageo Group’s largest African beer brand.

Kenya’s top finance brands, Equity and KCB banks, also made their mark on the list with Equity being a new entrant at position 11 while KCB fell four places off their 2019 rank of position eight. Mobile money platform M-Pesa fell four places to 17th despite its popularity. 

Safaricom was placed 12th in the continent’s most admired brands in the telecom category; six places from last year’s position given the stiff competition emanating from other African brands such as MTN, Glo and Vodacom, based in the continent’s richest economies; Nigeria and South Africa.

The research yielded more than 15,000 brand mentions and more than 2,000 unique brands.
