Trans Nzoia: Nangabo calls for action to end rampant cases of defilement

Trans Nzoia county MP Janet Nangabo has called for a renewed action to end rampant cases of defilement across all the five sub counties of Trans Nzoia, saying if not attended to quickly, the county may end up having thousands of teenage mothers.
Echoing this year’s theme of access to the child friendly justice system in Africa, she told those preying on underage children to brace themselves for hard times, reminding them that days when men used their ill wealth to defeat justice were gone.
Speaking to the People Daily in a telephone interview, the legislator said she had committed all her resources through her foundation to empower girls and asked for concerted efforts from stakeholders to forever end defilement cases in the county.
"A man salivating for a school child should go buy a uniform for his wife and admire her in uniform rather than prey on the innocent girls. Stiffer penalties must be taken against people of such calibers," she said.
The MP challenged communities and respective families in the county to rise up and speak for the girl in order to help deter sexual pests from advancing their lust especially in some places where people are still reluctant to accept that girls are equal to boys.
