Families that were displaced by floods in Kwanza sub-county in Trans Nzoia have appealed to the government to help them find a long lasting solution than food donations that cannot address periodic recurrences each year during rainy seasons.

They said for many years they have been undergoing stressful moments due to river Sabwani’s bank bursts leading to displacements, loss of  human lives and destruction of their property due to heavy rains.

Speaking to the People Daily on Namanjalala trading center,  Kapomboi  residents  pleaded with both the county and national governments to settle the affected families on alternative land to pave way for construction of dams in the affected villages of Kapsitwet, Namanjalala,Tembelela and lower Bidii.

Led by Nicholas Wamalwa, the residents  said several roads have  been rendered impassable due to hiking of fares both to Kitale and Kolongolo.

"So many families that escaped from the raging waters have not fully recovered from the shocks of losing family members and due to bad roads, fares have gone up steadily making it hard to go to Kolongolo or even Kitale," he said.

He said residents who have not recovered from last year’s havoc after returning to their homes should be assisted by the government following this year’s worst effects .
