Doctors in Trans Nzoia County  have accused the county government of overlooking their welfare since the start of the fight against the spread of coronavirus.

The medics painted a picture of a devastated workforce that has to put up with delayed salaries and a lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) while waging war against the Covid 19 pandemic.

Speaking to the People Daily during an interview, Dr. Zaietuni Akajoroit who is the region’s Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) liaison officer said the devolved government has breached a 2017 return to work agreement and warned of an impending strike.

“The agreement with the committee in charge of doctor’s welfare stated that we have to receive our payment latest on the fifth of every month with any expected delay being communicated to us in time,’ she said.

Dr. Francis Soita said it’s hypocritical that the county government has been rallying locals to wear face masks to curb the spread of the virus while it has not acquired such equipment for its health staff.
