Three police officers and a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier have been arrested in connection with the Sh72 million G4S heist.

Special Crime Prevention Unit (SCPU) detectives said the four suspects are relatives.

Constable Simon Gichuhi Karuku of Kampi ya Samaki Police Post, his wife constable Caroline Njeri Waithera, and his sister's constable Florence Wanjiru of Githurai Police Station and Corporal Eunice Wangari were arrested on Thursday, police said.

Detectives said Karuku and his wife Waithira had gone to an advocate to apply for anticipatory bond for them not to be arrested.

The couple led the police to Wangari Karuku in Kahawa Barracks. She had allegedly been left with the loot.

Wangari had, however, left for Nyahururu to attend a burial but she directed them to Wanjiru who was guarding Equity Bank.

Wanjiru, in turn, said she had given the cash to her boyfriend James Macharia, who is said to have escaped with the money.

Detectives laid an ambush and later arrested Wangari of Kahawa Garrison while driving a white Toyota Mark X, which had been bought using part of the stolen cash.
