Pressure yesterday continued to pile on Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji to resign over claims of incompetence. A third petition has been filed at the Public Service Commission (PSC) by the proprietor of Jack and Jill Supermarkets Schon Noorani who wants Haji removed from office for allegedly refusing to charge his former business associate Rajendra Sanghani. At the same time, lawyers involved in the other petitions seeking Haji’s removal now claim their lives are in danger. Lawyers Danstan Omari and Shadrack Wambui want the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to summon Haji over allegedly threatening them after they filed petitions seeking to have him removed from office. The first petition was filed by the late Tob Cohen’s sister Gabrielle Van Straten accusing the DPP of mismanaging her late brother’s case while the second one was by businessman Francis Njeru who accuses the DPP of acting unconstitutionally in his Sh150 million fraud case. In the latest petition, the businessman accuses Haji of failing to recommend Sanghani’s prosecution after he allegedly refused to pay a Sh240 million loan given to him by the businessman. Yesterday, Omari and Wambui accused the DPP of making remarks that amounted to threats during a function in Mombasa last month. “On October 25, 2021 while addressing members of the National Council for the Administration of Justice (NCAJ), (the DPP) misconducted himself by making reckless statements which amount to a breach of the oath of secrecy as a former Deputy Director of National Intelligence Service by disclosing that he went to war against the Al-Shabaab and he will not be cowed by the three petitions before the Public Service Commission that threaten his removal from office,” Omari stated.
