Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha yesterday blamed parents for the rise in cases of teenage pregnancies.

Magoha said parents had neglected their child-upbringing role, including informing  them about dangers of premature sexual relations.

Addressing an International Youth Day event in Kwale county, Magoha decried the increase in teenage pregnancies in the Coast region.

“Parents are to blame for failing in their role,” he said. Magoha also announced that the Ministry of Education would use Sh6.1 billion to expand public institutions in Kwale county.

“The money will ensure every public primary and secondary school in Kwale county gets a classroom, a laboratory and an extra administration block. This is part of the government’s programme to improve education standards,” he said.
