Tatu City appoints Stecol Corporation to undertake Sh 3.5B projects

Tatu City has appointed global engineering and construction firm Stecol Corporation to undertake infrastructural development projects worth over 3.5 billion shillings.
The international company priding in the multiple projects it has executed Kenya and beyond including national government projects such as the outering road in Nairobi will be required to complete the final phase of the infrastructure of Kijani Ridge, Tatu City’s premier residential neighbourhood.
According to the newly signed agreement between Tatu City and the reputable firm, Stecol will undertake construction of six-kilometres of tarmacked roads, six-kilometres of footpaths, a five-kilometer underground storm water conduit network and water supply pipeline, 2.7-kilometers of sewer lines, hundreds of streetlights, 12-kilometers of fibre optic cabling and kilometres of 11kV medium voltage underground power lines.
According to Eng. Samuel Gathukia, Head of Construction and Delivery at Tatu City, the corporation will be required to complete the infrastructural projects in 12 months.
Mr. Tian Yisheng, Deputy Director, East Africa Region, Stecol Corporation, confirmed the company’s commitment to Tatu City, where Stecol has also established its headquarters for East Africa.
As Tatu City endeavours to put up a new city free from congestion of Nairobi with all conveniences and business desires in a one location, Yisheng maintained that the company will undertake the development projects with global standards and at the set timeframe to allow residents live in a conducive environment with all the requisite amenities.
“Tatu City is more than a construction project for Stecol; it is also our home. We are honoured to play a key role in the achievement of Tatu City’s vision of building a new city free from the congestion of Nairobi, with all the conveniences residents and businesses desire in one location,” said Yisheng.
Currently at Tatu City, more than 60 local, regional, and multi-national businesses have opened or started development.
Among the businesses are industry leaders such as Dormans, Cooper K-Brands, Friendship Group, KWAL, Cold Solutions, Chandaria Industries, Kim-Fay, Davis & Shirtliff, Copia, FFS and Twiga Foods, among others. Two schools – Crawford International and Nova Pioneer – educate 3,000 students daily, and more than 3,000 homes are completed or under construction.
Rendeavour's Executive Vice President and the Chief Operating Officer - Tatu City Preston Mendenhall maintained that the value of investments at the city located in Ruiru exceeds Sh 130 billion adding that the management have intensified plans to ensure that the city becomes a one-stop shop with all the government services being offered from the area.
"We have designed Tatu City with a 30-years plus plan of water, power and sewerage systems proofing to ensure that we offer efficient services to residents, companies and businesses operating from here," he said.
The eastern district of Kijani Ridge has 218 half- and quarter-acre fully serviced plots, starting from KES 12.2 million. A third of the plots have already been purchased amid high demand for Kijani Ridge’s world-class infrastructure and the surrounding amenities of Tatu City, which include schools, businesses, retail, and hundreds of acres of open space.
The new Kijani Ridge infrastructure complements more than 9.5km of roads and 440 plots serviced with power, water, and waste in other areas of Kijani Ridge’s 350 acres of development.
Tatu City is Kenya’s first operational Special Economic Zone, where companies enjoy low corporate taxes, zero-rated VAT and important duty exemptions, among other benefits.
