Speaker Muturi calls for modalities to channel deducted officers’ pay

National Assembly Speaker, Justin Muturi yesterday challenged the National Treasury to come up with a mechanism of where money deducted from senior government officials’ pay cut in line with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s plea, will be channeled.
This came even as Muturi and his Senate counterpart Kenneth Lusaka announced that they had take a voluntary 30 percent pay cut in the next three months, to help mobilise funds support in the coronavirus disease following President Kenyatta’s Wednesday request.
But Muturi raised concerns on how the monies will be accounted for and also the modalities that will be taken in channelling it towards fighting the coronavirus scourge.

“The history of this country does not reflect very well when it comes to such a decision but it is my expectation that the if it is about a fund, it is the Treasury CS who has mandate to set one and we expect him to come up with a mechanism on how to be channelled,” said Muturi.
Muturi and Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka, who addressed a joint press conference at Parliament Buildings yesterday, said they would write to the CS Yatani instructing him to deduct their pay.
