Former Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe was with Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on the night businesswoman Monica Kimani was murdered in her house, a Nairobi court heard yesterday.

According to Maribe’s friend Chelagat Ruto, on September 19, 2018 at 6.30pm, she went to Road House Grill where she met her friend Juliet.

She told Justice James Wakiaga that they found Joseph Irungu, alias Jowie, with a friend and they joined them. Jowie is Maribe’s co-accused in Monica’s murder case.

She said that at 8.30 pm, Jowie received a phone call and left with his friend saying he had a meeting at Yaya Centre.

“We stayed for about two hours and left at quarter to nine for Citizen TV where Governor Sonko was to be hosted by Jeff Koinange,” she told the court.

“We met Jacque at her place of work and she told us to wait for her to finish her shift so that we could leave together. At about 11:30pm we left in my car to Club 40 in Westlands,” she said.

Chelagat said Sonko accompanied them to the club. She recalled that she was seated with Juliet, Maribe and Sonko at the club when Jowie checked into the club at 1am but sat at a different table.

According to Chelagat, Jowie was in the same outfit he had earlier in the day. “When Jowie arrived he sat at a table of two away from us, he was drinking Tusker Light,” said Chelagat

Chelagat, who said she was in Johnson Sakaja senate campaign team in 2017, told Justice Wakiaga that she left the club at 4am with Juliet in her car while Jackie and Jowie left in Jackie’s car. Sonko remained in the club.
