At least four people were killed and two others injured in a landmine explosion at the roadside in Somalia's capital Mogadishu on Monday, officials and witnesses told Xinhua.

According to a police officer who declined to be named, the improvised explosive device planted on the road linking Mogadishu to Afgoye town exploded, killing four civilians who were on the road and wounded two others.

"As I was passing the road, I heard a heavy blast and then I saw black smoke up in the air, people died. It was shocking," Jamila Aden, a witness said.

Witnesses told Xinhua the blast caused shockwaves in the area.
