Slits are a crafty way of showing skin without fully committing to it. If you want to show skin but do not want to wear something short, wearing something long with a high slit seems like the perfect middle ground, right? Slits flash a sexy sliver of thigh with every step or every passing gust of wind. Slits give new life, shape, and form to dressing items that might otherwise be unremarkable. While the back slit on dresses and skirts is the most common, thigh slits and side slits are slowly gaining prominence. The higher the slit the better. Slits are also now not just to be found in skirts and dresses, but can also be found in long shirts and trousers. A well-worn slit should elongate the legs and give the illusion of height. Fortunately, slits are not the preserve of the young and skinny. Pregnant women can rock side-slits and look sexy while at it. Older women can rock slits too. It might not be the hip-high slit but a slit up to the knee will do. To give the illusion that the slit is longer than it is, one can custom make longer dresses and skirts and then put the side slit running from ankle to knee thereby giving the impression that the slit is high. One can also wear thigh-high boots beneath a long dress with a hip-high slit so only a small sliver of skin shows. One can also wear tights underneath the skirt or dress as no one said that the slit can only show bare skin. This means that one can still wear slits even in the colder months of the year, as one can wear different items underneath. Slits are not a confine of dress-down Fridays and the once-a-year work evening parties. They can be worn anywhere, even to a Monday work briefing. One only needs to play with how high the slit is and how fit-hugging the item is. Just remember that like with every fashion item and trend, there are no rules. Simply wear what feels good and comfortable to you.
