Shabana boss’ backing gives Selebwa breathing space

Shabana FC fans who are not happy with the direction the team is taking under coach Gilbert Selebwa will have to contend with the situation as there are no plans to sack the beleaguered tactician.
This was the verdict of club chairman and patron Jared Nivaton who had to calm angry supporters at Ruaraka grounds on Saturday after they bayed for Selebwa’s blood following a 2-0 defeat to Ushuru in a National Super League match.
“Selebwa is trying to divide the team. He is unfortunately turning players against each other. He is dropping fit players in favour of the ones he likes,” Eric Omariba, a fan said.
But Selebwa termed the fans’ expectations too high when the team is still not up to standard.
“Even the top teams don’t win all their matches. We dominated today but failed to convert our chances. In such cases, there is little I can do,” he said.
Nivaton called for calm, saying: “We are really struggling financially because we don’t have a sponsor and I don’t think it will be wise to take action while everyone is mad. We have to sit back and do serious assessment.”
