The Senate Public Investments and Accounts committee failed to inspect various projects in Nyamira County on Tuesday citing lack of preparedness from the executive and the absence of the area Senator Okong’o Omogeni.

The Committee, led by Migori Senator Ochillo Ayako told journalists that the county executive under the leadership of governor Amos Nyaribo had pleaded with the committee for more time to prepare on various matters including familiarizing with the audit reports of the county before they can embark on the process.

“We had come to Nyamira County to do some sampling of various projects in the county but we have rescheduled it to Friday since the executive has to be fully prepared on the issues of audit reports. Also, the area senator Okong’o Omogeni had requested to be present during the entire exercise. That’s why we have agreed to carry out the two exercises on Friday,” Ayako told journalists in Nyamira town.

Among the members who were with Ayako include Deputy Senate Majority leader and Isiolo senator Fatuma Dhulo and Turkana Senator Malachy Charles Imana.

He further said the committee will go on to dig for information on the various projects in the county citing queries from the Auditor General saying the senate’s business is to oversight and monitor how public funds are being used and with that the committee will have to take up the task of monitoring all the projects in various devolved units.

He disclosed that a number of queries had been raised in the Auditor General’s report and they wanted to focus on the accountability in the said projects in the county.

Some of the projects that had been questioned include the new multimillion County Assembly office block, the Manga stadium that has stalled for seven years and the new Modern Doctor’s plaza at the Nyamira Referral Hospital which has not yet been completed.
