Six people suffered bullet wounds after a wounded gunman with an AK 47 riffle went berserk at the Kayole Junction on Kangundo road on Monday evening.

The gunman and his accomplice, who were driving a Toyota Allion, were later overpowered and gunned down after more than 10 minutes of fierce fire exchange with the police.

Police were acting on a tip off and had trailed the duo from Kiambu Road where they had carried out a number of robberies and upon reaching Kayole Junction, they were blocked by three cars and asked to surrender.

They started firing and an exchange ensued.

The driver of the car suffered fatal gunshot wounds and died on the drivers seat, while the other thug managed to crawl to the middle of the road with his injuries and opened fire, spraying all over as he laid down.

Police said he managed to spray 18 bullets before he was finally killed.

In the process, one police officer suffered a fractured leg after he fell into a ditch as he tried to take cover from the hail of bullets.

The injured were pedestrians and boda boda operators and were rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital.
