ODM Leader Raila Odinga has on Tuesday October 19, 2021 engineered a handshake between Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi and his political nemesis CS Peter Munya. Raila brokered the unity between the two politicians during his meeting with grassroot leaders in Chuka, Tharaka Nithi County.

The duo have had a protracted political tiff after a 2017 duel that saw Kiraitu Murungi dethrone Munya as the Meru county head. The two have for a long time traded salvos as they separately proclaimed themselves as the de facto Meru kingpin.

Munya and Kiraitu are currently united in drumming up support for the opposition chief, who has his eyes set for the 2022 presidency.

On his part, CS Munya rubbished claims by certain quarters that Mount Kenya votes belong to a specific candidate.

"Raila's moment to rule this country has come and it is very clear. Those who are not believing should better come and join us. People who purport to climb the mountain and confidently say they are on top of the mountain, could not realize that they were misled by the wrong guides. Raila has followed the right guides, he is walking with the people who have the touch with the locals," he said.

He also heaped praises on the former premier, stating that he has a progressive agenda that will benefit the region.

"I know the plans that Raila has to raise the people at the bottom of our economic pyramid. He will build on what President Uhuru Kenyatta has done and transform this country. He also has a plan to give support to those who need it, so that they can also lead a dignified life," he added.

Kiraitu Murungi also praised the presidential hopeful as a bright, strategic and focused leader. He endorsed his candidature and promised to walk with him in his 2022 presidential campaigns.

"Raila is a man with a lot of energy. He is focused, bright, strategic and a fearless fighter. He is leading the economic revolution that will transform the lives of lowly placed Kenyans. We are not following him foolishly, we know the type of persons he is," he said.
