Police recover stolen cows, detain them as exhibits as they arrest two suspects
Police in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County on Saturday recovered over ten cows stolen from different homes and arrested two suspects.
The suspects John Costa Nyagothie and Sammy Mwangi were apprehended at Matunda area after they tried to escape in an Isuzu lorry that had stolen cattle.
According to police sources, the suspects had parked the lorry KCG 156Y on the roadside at Matunda but fled when the police approached them prompting a pursuit.
Two other suspects fled into a thicket, leaving behind four cows.
"The officers then embarked on pursuing the lorry which was later intercepted and two other cows were found having been loaded therein, all which were reasonably suspected to have been stolen(sic)," said the police in a statement.
The owner of four of the recovered cows was later identified and handed back his livestock. Police detained the six unclaimed cows as exhibits as the suspects await to be arraigned.
Also in Kiminini, police on Saturday night recovered three cows from an unsuccessful theft.
The owner of the cows, Diana Mwaka told police she woke up in the middle of the night to find an empty pen. After raising an alarm, police rushed to her home from where they tracked the cattle to a forest.
Police have warned against increasing cattle theft at Kiminini.
