Police officer nursing injuries after gun accidentally discharges
A police constable attached to the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai’s office is nursing a gunshot wound at a Nairobi hospital after his firearm accidentally discharged.
Franklin Tsuma shot himself in the left thigh while holstering his Jericho Pistol while driving home at night.
At the time of the incident he was driving an official police car assigned to him at Kware area within Donholm in Nairobi.
Members of the public helped and rushed the heavily bleeding officer to Mater Hospital where he was first admitted before being moved to Nairobi West Hospital for further treatment.
“The Jericho Pistol and a magazine with 13 rounds of ammunition of 9mm caliber was recovered. The officer has been transferred to Nairobi West Hospital for further treatment,” a police investigations report shows.
The police vehicle, a Volkswagen pickup, was taken to Industrial Area Police Station for inspection since there were visible damage on the bonnet and left headlight.
