Opiyo to replace Omino at All Stars on interim basis

Kenyan Premier League debutants Kisumu All Stars have announced the acquisition of Arthur Opiyo as coach on interim basis to replace veteran Henry Omino who was sacked on Sunday.
The struggling lakeside team, currently 16th on the 17-team log, have had a terrible season and reports indicate that Omino was asked to step aside after just two wins in 15 games that have left them with eight points and in danger of relegation.
It is therefore a big job on the hands of the largely inexperienced Opiyo who has KNVB and DFB training from the Netherlands and Germany respectively.

Opiyo will be expected to steer the ship until the end of the month as the club seeks a suitable permanent replacement.
The ex-Chemelil Sugar and Sony Sugar player had a coaching stint at former National Super League side Ligi Ndogo.
Assistant coach Francis ‘Killer’ Oduor and trainer Evans Oketch have, however, retained their jobs while goalkeeper trainer Joseph Ongoro and second assistant Andrew Aroka have left the club.
“We have decided as a board to effect the changes so that we can improve our performances.
It was necessary for us so that we have a sense of continuity and understanding,” said club CEO Nicholas Ochieng’ in Kisumu yesterday, adding that they are eyeing four new players in this month’s transfer window.
Additionally, the county government of Kisumu has undertaken to pay up the ballooning players’ salary arrears.
“We have had challenges with paperwork considering our players are all contracted by the county. It has taken time and it has been a frustrating process for everyone especially the playing unit,” said Ochieng.
“I think we have failed the team and we apologise for it because they deserved better. We will undertake that by latest next Monday. The players will be fully paid their six months arrears and this assurance is from the Governor himself,” he said.
