An officer attached to the Anti-Mugging Squad at Central Police Station, Nairobi, was on Saturday night reportedly attacked and robbed of his official firearm at Globe Roundabout.

Constable Abdulahi Hassan said he was attacked by a gang riding on two motorcycles, who hit him on the head and took away his firearm— a Jericho pistol loaded with 15 bullets. The gang also made away with his mobile phone.

Nairobi police commander Philip Ndolo said the victim had been deployed alongside his colleague Constable Robert Mugo.

However, Hassan told his colleague he was going to see his mother when the incident happened.

Meanwhile, police arrested seven suspects and recovered 151 reportedly stolen mobile phones and other gadgets, during a raid in Mfangano Street and River Road, Nairobi,  on Saturday.

They are expected to be charged in court tomorrow. At the same time, detectives are probing the presence of potentially fake and substandard goods after fake tomato sauce was recovered in Mwiki on Saturday. A 1kg ivory piece was also recovered.
