Nyabera, Muraa labour to edge opponents at ITF tourney
Judith Muraa saved two match points to get the better of compatriot Faith Nyabera in straight sets of 7-5, 6-4 yesterday during the second leg of ITF Women’s World Tour Championship.
All Kenyan female participants had successfully qualified on Monday and were on court in readiness of renewed battle.
Muraa, who got eliminated last week in the third round, however, had to work hard to fend off a familiar foe in the mid-morning match at Peponi School, Ruiru.

The contest had both players having their different share of shining moments on court especially in the opening set.
Muraa took the lead 3-0 with Nyabera struggling to keep back serve thus giving momentum to her opponent.
The early exchanges centred mostly on or across the net with plenty of balls circling on the baseline. Nyabera was, however, cautious in her movement while Muraa was all out attacking at opportunity given her good cover of the court.
Twice Nyabera broke Muraa’s serve but the latter kept coming and forcing her opponent into making errors while on returns. Eventually, Muraa neutralised Nyabera who was threatening to overturn the charge and angle for a tie-breaker.
The former was patient in execution as she studied the shots responding clinically to nip the set.
The second set was equally entertaining as both set of players battled hard. Nyabera came out guns blazing to try and rescue herself from the hole and earn a stab at the second round.
