NSL Leaders Talanta, Police hit blanks in tie

National Super League leaders FC Talanta endured a frustrating afternoon as they tied 0-0 with their close challengers Kenya Police FC in a top-of-the-table clash played at the Ruaraka Grounds Wednesday.
Both sides showcased great football in what turned out to be a cagey and physical contest with with several bookings witnessed.
Talanta’s forward pair of Anthony Guchu and Michael Jairo were dangerous on the ball and the backline of Police led by goalkeeper Reuben Juma had to be hawk eyed.

Police through David Oluoch and Alvin Mangeni also pressed the opponents who were often being fed by Erick Kipkirui who was quick and slippery on every opportune attack.
Their defense was equally solid led by captain Phillip Ochieng alongside David Okiki even as the respective coaches Ken Kenyatta for Talanta and John Bobby Ogola shouted instructions.
Talanta retain top spot with 65 points while Kenya Police are on 54 points albeit with a match in hand with the league nearing completion.
Meanwhile, Shabana recovered from two poor matches by winning 2-1 against visiting Mwatate United at Awendo Green Stadium yesterday.
Goals by Fred Nyakodi and Brian Kiako in the 41st and 61st minutes respectively canceled out Mwatate’s opener by Joshua Robinson in the 20th minute.
Tore Bobe, as Shabana are popularly known, have in the past two matches dropped five points and now the slim win pushes them to fifth on with 50 points off 34 matches as they attempt to get a playoff slot with four matches left.
In another contest, Nairobi Stima and Mt Kenya United drew 1-1 at Camp Toyoyo Grounds.
Stima were first to score through John Njoroge in the 63rd minute but before the dust settled, Eric Mata of Mt Kenya equalised.
