The 2020 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) held both online and offline by China from Sept. 3 to 7 in Beijing accorded Namibian youth to explore international markets amid COVID-19 outbreak.

Maria Siegfried, a Namibian youth who orders items from China to sell at a premium was yearning for an international platform to learn more about international markets and services to grow her venture. As luck would have it for her, the provision for digital platforms during CIFTIS accorded her the opportunity to follow the event since Sept. 3.

She followed the event via the official website, videos, news and other online platforms.

Access to various content aided in keeping abreast with recent developments in doing business on an international arena, in particular with China.

"It provided me with better insight about international trade as well as fostering closer cooperation with my business counterparts in China from whom I order the products," Siegfried added.

She is not the only one. The CIFTIS served as a learning tool for Elly Kauna, a young Namibian based in the capital of Windhoek.

Kauna, who is interested in finances, investment and agriculture, keenly followed the discussion around the International Forum for Development and Investment of Modern Supply Chain of Food.

She also extensively toured the digital platform as well as learn best practices in business and breakthroughs mostly new technologies.

In the meantime, this year's CIFTIS aided exchanges has inspired confidence amongst the youth about doing business with China.

"At home, the impact will be great, as my efforts and accelerated trade with China which will translate into growth of my business will contribute to economic and social development," she added.

The 2020 CIFTIS was held under the theme "Global Services, Shared Prosperity".

Information on the CIFTIS website shows that nearly 100,000 people and 18,000 enterprises from 148 countries registered for the fair. (Xinhua)
