Mugo among four candidates entered for FKF Nrb West battle
Former Kenya Football Federation (KFF) now Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Nairobi Branch chairman Simon Mugo leads a list of four aspirants for the Nairobi West branch chairman’s position after the deadline for presenting nomination papers elapsed last week.
The branch has attracted the highest number of candidates for the forthcoming polls in which current branch chairman Bashir Hussein will be seeking re-election, renowned football coach Charles Omondi ‘Korea’ is also in the race as well as incumbent branch Secretary General Caleb Malweyi who wants a higher position.
Mugo who some believe could be a possible replacement on FKF president Nick Mwendwa after his term expires, could have a slight upper hand over the rest having been a successful administrator during his time in office and was the owner of Kangemi United that rose from grassroot football to feature in the Kenyan Premier League.
Meanwhile, the FKF Electoral Board’s Appeals Committee yesterday opened its doors to disputes concerning the nomination exercise which ended on Wednesday last week.
The committee is set to listen to appeals and disputes submitted to it between yesterday, and tomorrow, after which the committee will issue verdicts, which will be final and binding.
“Section 7 of the Electoral Code provides any aspirants, who were not happy with the decisions of the board, recourse in the Appeals Committee,” said Board Chairman Prof. Edwin Wamukoya.
“Aspirants who wish to lodge appeals will be required to pay a non-refundable fee, as is stipulated in Section 7 of the Electoral Code, and thereafter send their appeals physically to our address, or on the appeals committee’s email address, [email protected],” he added.
The Board had earlier on Thursday last week revealed a preliminary list of candidates for the County and National elections.
