Most wanted criminal: Police shoot dead notorious armed robber

A notorious armed robber believed to have been behind criminal activities in Tigoni, Kiambu and Nairobi was on Friday morning shot dead in Kariobangi South.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) also recovered a Walter pistol and 26 rounds of ammunition.
David Gitau Kimani was shot dead alongside his female companion whose identity was not immediately established.
Following information from the public, detectives from the Special Crime Prevention Unit (SCPU) conducted an early morning raid at Gitau’s hideout in Kariobangi South near Dr Mwenje School.
He was directed to surrender but instead, he fired eight rounds through the window, prompting an exchange.
The officers fired several rounds and later broke the door. In the house, the body of the suspect and that of another woman were found lying in a pool of blood, on the floor.
The SCPU team had been tracking the suspects for weeks after he was involved in a robbery at a veterinary shop in Tigoni and a butchery along Mutarakwa road.
Elsewhere, police have launched a manhunt for a murder suspect who escaped from Ongata Rongai Police Station on Wednesday.
Wilfred Moturi had been charged before Kajiado High court and had a day earlier been collected from the Kajiado Prison.
Investigations have been launched and two officers Constable Geoffrey Kinyua and Constable Phillis Kasyoka have already recorded their statements.
