In recent times, we have seen celebrities make bold steps by throwing their hats into the murky waters of politics.

While there have been more disappointments than joys, rapper Gkon feels encouraged by this. Speaking to PD Wikendi, Gkon said it is only through joining politics that artistes’ welfare can be looked into.

“We need more artistes in parliament so that they can effect the changes they want through law.

When MPs want to increase their salaries, they put their differences aside and do it and for us, it is a guide of how we should organise ourselves,” he stated.

At the same time, he has taken issue with the likes of Starehe MP Charles Njagua popularly known as Jaguar, whom he accused of developing cold feet once in the august house.

“We had a lot of expectation from some of these youthful leaders when we elected them, but to our disappointment, they have let us down.

For example, I thought Jaguar would push for a bill that will look after our welfare as creatives, but he hasn’t,” added the Vile Kutaenda rapper.
