Mombasa set to host global rifle shooting championship in 2022

Kenya is set to host an international practical rifle shooting championship mid next year in Mombasa.
Kenya Sports Shooting Federation chairman Mohamed Soaib Voyani said Kenya is on the verge of getting the nod to host the event from the world federation.
“We have already approached over 15 international countries and they have shown interest in Mombasa because of its location and this will provide an opportunity to boost tourism,” said Voyani during the end of the National Practical Shooting Confederation League championship at the Bamburi Rifle Club on Sunday.
“Respective country federations will send representatives to come and inspect our venue and preparations for the event,” he added. The sport’s popularity has significantly grown in the past few years with over 12 counties now adopting the sport with Kenya eyeing the Olympics in 2024 slot.
Over the weekend, top of the top Kenya shooters led by Ibrahim Ndung’u from Bamburi Rifle Club converged in Mombasa to compete in the end of the year championship that attracted 52 participants.
