Mombasa man charged with incitement, printing own flag

A man was on Friday charged before a Mombasa Law Court with incitement to violence by printing a flag with the words "Singwaya Government" and uttering words "Pwani si Kenya."

The court was told that this indicated that the accused had formed his own government other than the legally known Kenya government. 

The court heard that on January 7, without lawful excuse, Jambo Mwinyikombo Gojama printed words at Mbuyu wa Chapa area in Jomvu sub-county.

The prosecution said that such actions had led communities living in in the area to live in fear.

The man also faced a second count of incitement to violence.

The charge sheet read that on the same date, together with others not in court, he uttered words that "Pwani si Kenya" words that meant that Coast is not part of Kenya, a statement that could incite violence.

He denied the charges and was released on a Sh300,000 bond and a surety of similar amount.

 The matter will come up for pre-trial on January 23.
