Mogonga set sights on regional title in Arusha debut appearance
Mogonga PAG volleyball team have vowed to wrest the East Africa Secondary School volleyball title. Kenya lost the discipline’s diadem to Rwanda in the last two years.
Mogonga who clinched their first-ever Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national volleyball title last month, make their debut in the forthcoming regional games in Arusha, Tanzania between August 17-24.
Mogonga are seeded top in Group B and are paired with LT St Luc (Bur), IPRC Karongi (RWA), Dynamic SS (UG), Mbogo Mixed (UG), Milambo (TZ) while Lelmokwo, another newcomer in the East African games will also be doing for the country’s hour from Group A where they pooled with PS Karubanda (RWA), Don Bosco Gatenga (RWA), Standard High School Zzana (UG) and hosts Tuangoma (TZ).“
My target is to lift the trophy and I am confident that Mogonga will bring home the title after two years hiatus,” confident Mogonga PAG coach Nathan Kiptoo told People Sports.
“As for me, experience will matter in these games bit despite that we are coming here (Arusha) for the first time, I’m confident with the talents I have and the experience we have gained in the nationals (KSSSA) and I am, therefore, working on blocks and serves which will give the opponents hard time to make the moves.
Secondly, I know each and every team there are good but I must fight hard to top in the pool to avoid the Rwanda sides in the semis,” he added.
Mogonga serve off their campaign against LT St Luc of Burundi in Group B on Saturday 17 at 11am as Lelmokwo takes on Twangoma of Tanzania in Group A opener at the same time.
In the girls’ category, two-time defending champions Kwanthanze will be seeking to make it a record three straight titles in the East Africa games as Cheptil and Soweto give them strong backup in operation retain Kenyan girls’ title.
