Midiwo, 54, dies while receiving treatment

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) yesterday lost one of its foremost defenders, former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo, who died at the Nairobi Hospital while receiving treatment.
Jakoyo was said to have been admitted at the facility at the weekend. ODM, through its twitter handle last evening, broke the news of Jakoyo’s death.
“Sad day for our party. We have just lost a gallant son of the soil, a founder member of Change Movement and a three-time MP for Gem, Hon Jakoyo Midiwo.

President Uhuru Kenyatta also mourned Midiwo. In his message of comfort to the family, relatives, friends and supporters of Jakoyo , the President said Jakoyo was an outspoken politician as a forthright, brave and straight forward leader who spoke his mind all the times.
“I have received the sad news of the passing away of my friend, the Hon Jakoyo Midiwo with shock and disbelief.
I was with him during my recent working tour of Nyanza during which we opened several projects in his former constituency,” the President recalled.
East African Legislative Assembly MP Dr Oburu Oginga, the family’s spokesperson, said Jakoyo passed on while undergoing treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.
ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale separately tweeted the news, without revealing the cause of his sudden death.
“Hon Jakoyo Midiwo has rested. Please pray for the family during this difficult moment,” announced Etale.
The former lawmaker, who was born in 1966 was a first cousin of ODM leader Raila and Dr Oginga . Dr Oginga’s son, Jaoko Oburu, also confirmed his uncle’s death.“What we know so far is that Mheshimiwa died at the Nairobi Hospital,” he said.
