Matiang’i declares Monday a public holiday

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has declared Monday, 25th of May as public holiday to mark Idd-u-Fitr.

Matiang'i announced it in a gazette notice dated 20th May, 2020.

Muslims in Kenya started observing Ramadhan on April 25th for 30 days, which is expected to end on May 25th.

During the entire month of Ramadan, Muslims are obligated to fast every day from dawn to sunset.

Fasting requires the abstinence from food and drink for 12 hours.

During this period, Muslims are also required to abstain from sexual acts.

This year’s Ramadhan has not been business as usual, given that it comes at a time when the world in battling COVID-19 pandemic.
