Climate change activists on Friday launched innovative program dubbed ‘Voices for Just Climate Action’ aimed at amplifying marginalised voices and initiatives.

The lobby groups include Akina Mama wa Afrika, Hivos, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Slum Dwellers International, and South South North.

The launch comes at a time when the world is waking up to the reality that climate change is a crisis which is happening more quickly than ever anticipated.

“It is essential to work with and strengthen civil society to build widespread societal support for locally shaped climate solutions through an inclusive and rights-based approach.

“This includes building a broad-based climate alliance at country level, bridging divides (urban-rural, gender, youth) that amplifies voices in new unusual ways.

“In addition, influencing national and global policies and financial flows in support of these locally shaped solutions,” Stella Agara, the Economic Justice and Climate Action Lead at  Akina Mama wa Afrika, said.
