The separation saga between Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and Lilian Ng’ang’a has taken an ugly turn, with the former First Lady now accusing her estranged partner of threatening her life.

In an interesting twist of events, Lilian, who also denied she was legally married to Mutua, but were only staying as “long-term partners,” wants criminal investigations instituted against the governor.

In a press briefing yesterday, Lilian, who was accompanied by her lawyer Senior Counsel Philip Murgor, made the damning allegations, claiming Mutua had vowed to “finish” and “crush her to ash,” following their separation a few months ago.

“Mutua is out to destroy me psychologically and economically, and he must be stopped. Any form of gender-based violence must be shunned and perpetrators punished heavily,” she said.

She claimed that on September 8, 2021, Mutua accompanied by his police bodyguard stormed her apartment in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, and took away her personal car and transferred its ownership to another person.

“…without my knowledge or consent and using a spare key which he had illegally obtained, he drove away my personal motor vehicle KBY 186G - a car which had been fully registered in my name since 2014.

Mutua proceeded to fraudulently transfer the ownership of the car in the log book into his name, and thereafter sold the vehicle to a third party,” said Lilian, adding that she had filed the matter in court.

“I filed a case which is pending in court so I will not comment further on it,” she said.

Efforts to reach Governor Mutua for a rejoinder were futile as he was said to be out of the country with his phone not being picked and text messages not being responded to.

He later posted a philosophical message on his social media account from the US.

“GO PLACIDLY amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.” By Desiderata.

Lilian further accused Mutua of fraudulently taking away her shares in properties they jointly owned.

“Using the same fraudulent means, Mr Mutua recently and illegally transferred my shares in the Ndash Enterprises Ltd (the hotel company) to his sister Ann Mbandi Mutua. Again, a clear act of fraud.

At no point did I execute a transfer of my shares or otherwise transfer my 1,600 shares (45 per cent) shareholding in the company to him, let alone his sister,” she states.

Lilian said they held a meeting with the governor on September 22, 2021, to settle the bad blood that has characterised their separation, but things turned for worse with Mutua allegedly declaring her his “enemy number one”.

“Mutua angrily termed me as his Enemy No. 1 and threatened to “crush me to ash”, as he takes away everything I have.

Indeed, this has already started as he has demanded that I refund any money he has ever given to me or made available for my use,” she said yesterday.

She added: “He also threatened to harm persons close to me. He further demanded I apologise and retract the statements I’ve made on social media regarding our breakup, which I declined. He stated that he had offers from people to kill persons close to me.”

Relationship end

Lilian added that during the said meeting held at Windsor Golf and Country Club, Mutua “arrogantly stated that he was a powerful person, and he can get away with anything and everything he has planned to do to me and my friends”.

“He added that his social media machinery is ready and waiting to ‘finish’ me and my friends completely,” claims Lilian.

In August, the two took to their various social media platforms to officially announce the end of their relationship.

“Winds of change blew my way and two months ago, I decided to end my long-term relationship with Dr Alfred Mutua.

We had a good run and I am forever grateful to God he brought us together. We remain friends,” Lilian posted.

Their relationship came to public attention when he was first elected into office, prompting her to take over the responsibilities of the First Lady.
