GRACE WACHIRA Best moment while at work? I always enjoy it when I put a smile on my client’s face and when my employees are cheerful and are at peace. It gives me joy. Worst public experience? One day, while offering our services at a wedding, the methylated spirit used for keeping food warm blew up as we were serving the high table. I suffered burns and my trouser and my innerwear were burnt. I had to be covered up by bride’s lesso as I was rushed to the hospital. Best hobby? I absolutely love the art of cooking and I can do it every minute. It helps me exercise my creativity freely. But I have since developed a new hobby. I am a father of three and I love playing with my daughters; Wema, Maisha and Milele Worst habit? This is a bit embarrassing, but subconsciously when I am in deep thought, I pick my nose. Best thing about being Kenyan? Kenyans are comical and I like the freedom we have as well as the endless opportunities to explore in the business sector. Worst advice you have ever received? Someone told me to close shop and go back to employment. Best thing about working in the food industry? (Laughs) People will always eat. As long as you offer quality, you will always be in business. Lowest moment this year? I have had many low moments this year, I cannot explain. As we speak I am a tad low, but this is personal. Worst experience while catering? We once had an opportunity to serve First Lady Margaret Kenyatta breakfast at Kasarani after her training in preparation for the First Lady half marathon. It was to be served at 6am. Our car broke down on our way, Ubers took too long and we ran out of options. I was under pressure with calls coming in left, right and centre. Eventually the car was repaired, but we were late and our breakfast was taken by bodyguards and stadium caretakers. If you were to come back as a car, what would it be and why? A Range Rover; that’s my dream car. Owning it will make me a happy man. The shape of that beast gives me goose bumps.
