KPL clubs to pay match referees for services: Oguda

Kenya Premier League (KPL) clubs will have to pay referees officiating
their matches going forward as cash crunch continues to bite.
The decision was arrived at in a consultative KPL governing council
meeting held today.
“Effective immediately the payment of match officials for the 2019-20
season shall be shared equally by the home club and visiting club and
must be paid at the pre-match meeting,” read part of the communiqué to
clubs.
The decision comes at a time when allegations of match officials
mishandling National Super League (NSL) matches because of bribery
since the referees’ payment is no longer done by the federation but by
the clubs themselves are rife.
