Kirinyaga County Senator Charles Kibiru has come under fire from a section of residents following his appointment as the spokesperson of the county.

During appointment by the council of elders, Maendeleo ya Wanawake and Jubilee Party Kirinyaga branch on November 3 at Sagana, Kibiru was entrusted to coordinate development projects under National Government in the county.

The Jubilee party Kirinyaga Branch chairman Muriithi Kang'ara said the county had been left without a spokesperson since Governor Ann Waiguru ditched the ruling party.

"There has been a political vacuum and that is why we have chosen Senator Kibiru to fill it," Muriithi said.

However, the decision has not been taken lightly by Governor Waiguru supporters who on November 4th dismissed the move terming it misguided.

"Governor Waiguru is still the county boss and therefore I do not understand why Senator Kibiru was picked to fill an imaginary position," Gladys Wambui said while addressing the press in Kagio town.

She also observed that the Senator has been missing in the Kirinyaga political scene since he was elected during the 2017 general elections.

He added: "Our Governor has lobbied for many development projects from the national government but all this time, our senator was not around to unite other leaders to ensure that there is development in Kirinyaga."

The supporters also wondered why would Senator Kibiru interfere with Jubilee party issues when he is not a member.

"Our senator was elected on an independent ticket," Mugo Murage said.
