Kerai bats through innings to lead Kanbis in memorable victory
Vishal Kerai stood out for Kanbis after batting through his innings and claim 37 runs on the board as his side beat East Africa Cricket Foundation by a measly four runs Friday.
The match, played at Eastleigh School, is a continuation of the ongoing T20 Hayer One Youth Cricket league. Kerai was ably assisted in the chase by Harshil Varsani on 26 and declared man of the match over his all-round performance despite being run out by George Kuria. EACF won the toss and selected to bat in the opening innings managing to post a score of 107-4 in their allotted overs.
Teddy Odhiambo who batted at number six was incidentally the highest run getter with 22 balls. The opening batting partnership of Dennis Mwaura and Alex Kamanjiri only combined for a score total of 18 in between overs before being bowled out by Jinesh Jivani and Harshil Varsani. Kanbis had Satish Hirani as the main wicket taker after getting two down. Kanbis were to end the proceedings with 111-4 on the board.
In another heavyweight contest, defending Champions Uganda Cricket Association U19 beat Coast Cricket Association by 15 runs at close of innings. Ronald Omara put in 22 on the board for the developing UCA side after they selected to bat first.
Omara was stellar on the crease with selective shots but ultimately his all-rounder colleague Pascal Murungi, who posted 19 runs off 35 balls and claimed three wickets on the upturn of innings as UCA rushed to set a target of 91-9 on the board in their allotted overs.
On resumption, CCA had opener Sukhraj Singh posting a game high 37 runs before being caught clean Juma Miyaji off a Munir Ismail delivery inside 3.2 overs. However, in the process of attempting to build up the numbers, the deadly trio of Murungi, Miyaji and Ismail slowed down their momentum with a total eight wicket haul amongst them.
