KCB now have fate in their hands after they took Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League lead yesterday following a deserved 2-0 win over Western Stima in Kisumu.

The win now position them as favourites to win their first ever local league title. All they need to do is to win all their remaining four league matches.

The Bankers are now on 57 points as opposed to Tusker FC’s 55 following their 2-1 loss away at seventh placed Bandari FC at Mbaraki Grounds.

It was a day billed as important by pundits in what is turning out to be an interesting final sprint towards the end of the season with both the title in sight and the relegation battle intensifying.

At the bottom, Mathare United leaped from last position for the first time in three months after the stunned Kariobangi Sharks 3-2 in an early kick-off at Thika Stadium.

The thrilling encounter saw Mathare strike the decisive goal in the 94th minute of play.

This was the second consecutive win for Frank Ouna’s men who also beat Sofapaka in similar fashion at the weekend and the result now pushes them out of the relegation spot and places them above Vihiga United and Stima.

The slum-boys got their goals from Khalid Jumaan, John Mwangi and James Kinyanjui canceling out Sharks goals coming from Geoffrey Onyango and Peter Lwasa.

Mathare United are now on 21 points with their fifth win in 28 matches. The tight match ended 1-1 at the break and was coupled by mostly individual brilliance and solo errors from either side.

Sharks were punished for being lax as Mathare pushed them when they had opportunity.

This was the second loss in a row for Sharks who got whitewashed 4-1 by Kakamega Homeboyz last weekend and now still retain fourth place with 43 points.

At Mbaraki, Bandari managed to avenge the corresponding fixture in a similar style and are now on 43 points after having goals from John Mwita and Iddi Hasan cancel out Rogers Aloro opener for Tusker.

KCB who were playing at Moi Stadium managed to get a double over their opponents this season thanks to a brace by Derrick Otanga.

Zedekiah Otieno’s men now have a shot at glory with the numerical advantage over Tusker who until last week led the standings.

Sofapaka beat Nzoia Sugar 1-0 in another encounter at Ruaraka Stadium to avenge their first leg loss against the sugar men.

Roy Okal was the scorer of the lone goal following a rebound off a Lawrence Juma free-kick in the 48th minute.

Batoto ba Mungu are placed 13th with 33 points off 28 matches in what has been a difficult season for them.

The match ended with a red card for the visitors after Kevin Juma was sent off in the 78th minute.
