Kanbis run riot as Kongonis stun Ruaraka

Kanbis Sports Club showed their ruthless streak, thrashing Sikh Union by 202 runs in a reduced overs in the fourth round of the Nairobi Invitational Cricket League at Eastleigh High School on Sunday.

The T20 champions posted a commanding 305/7 on the board in the opening innings in their allotted 40 overs.

Kanbis, who won the toss and elected to bat, used their strength to full effect with the deadly pair of Nelson Odhiambo (88 off 78 balls) and Rakep Patel (63 off 56 balls) leading the onslaught. 

The opening partnership of Narendra Patel (32 off 25 balls) and Dhiren Gondaria (10 off 14 balls) had both been trapped leg earlier before wicked deliveries from Jaspreet Kundi.

On resumption, Sikh Union were restricted to 105/10 after their batsmen were bowled out in 36 overs.

The evergreen Patel came in to claim three wickets for Kanbis but Urkash Kumar (41 off 79 balls) top-scored for their opponents in an outing to forget as seven of their batting order failed to get double digits on the board.

Meanwhile, minnows Kongonis Cricket Club stunned hosts Ruaraka Sports Club by three wickets in another thrilling 50 over the game. 

The visiting team opted to field after the toss and subsequently set 206/7 in 42.4 overs in the second innings. 

James Onyango (95 off 99 balls), including seven boundaries, top-scored for the Upper Hill-based club before being run out by James Owino. 

Elsewhere, Swamibapa beat Ngara SC by 18 runs at Nairobi Jaffrey’s grounds with Naman Patel (150 off 119 balls) emerging as a man of the match. 

The match that was decided on Duckworth Lewis method saw Swami post 262/8 inside 40 overs while the visiting side put in a tidy 252/10 on the board but just fell short.
