Kagwe most trusted to pass coronavirus information

Health Cabinet secretary Mutahi Kagwe remains the most trusted person to give reliable information on coronavirus disease, a new poll has shown.
Infotrak Research and Consulting Special Projects Manager, Walter Nyabundi said at least 83 percent of Kenyans trust Kagwe the most to give reliable news followed by President Uhuru Kenyatta with 82 percent.
“Health Cabinet Secretary and the President are still the two Kenyans trust the most to give reliable information about coronavirus,” said Nyabundi, during the virtual presentation on findings of the latest survey.

The third most trusted source of accurate news of the coronavirus is television followed by radio at 76 percent and 74 percent respectively.
Governors, opinion leaders such as Chiefs and newspaper follow in that order with 71 percent, 69 percent and 62 percent respectively.
The least trusted sources of coronavirus information are friends and family, who jointly scored 34 percent then social media with 39 percent.
However, compared to the first survey the firm conducted in April, the survey has shown some difference in the level of trust for sources of news.
Nyabundi said Kagwe scored 87 percent in April, which marked a difference of four percent compared to his current score of 83 percent.

The April poll also put President Uhuru at 85 percent, a 3 percent difference from the latest poll the firm has conducted.
The survey was sponsored by Infotrak and conducted between May 28 and June 2, with interviews conducted through Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI).
A sample of 1,200 respondents was interviewed and covered 24 out of the 47 counties.
Last month’s survey showed that a significant number of Kenyans were in support of President Uhuru’s performance in dealing with the coronavirus disease.
The survey indicated that 62 percent of Kenyans were confident with the manner in which the President has handled the coronavirus situation.
“Compared to the first wave of the survey conducted in April, the overall performance of the President in dealing with coronavirus moved from 59 percent to 62 percent,” last month’s survey indicated.
