Kagwe inaugurates new team to handle operations of medical equipment

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has inaugurated a new team to lead efforts to review operations of medical equipment leased to counties.
New team comprises representatives from the Council of Governors, National Treasury, Office of the Attorney General, Ministry of Health, Kenyatta and University of Nairobi respectively. Kenyatta National Hospital chairman, George Ooko, will lead the team.
In a statement issued yesterday, Kagwe (pictured) said the new team is expected to review challenges affecting implementation, and consider ways of improving equipment operations and also ensure all other factors necessary for the successful implementation of the project are addressed.
“It will be recalled that the Government entered into various contracts for the supply of a variety of equipment and facilities for use in counties.
The initial set of medical equipment to be provided through Managed Equipment Services arrangement were in seven lots,” said the CS, in a statement.
The items comprised theatre equipment, theatre Central Sterile Supply Department equipment, laboratory equipment Category 1 and 2 respectively, renal equipment, ICU and radiology equipment.
Also in a statement, the ministry said it recorded 552 new Corona cases from 7,013 samples tested in the last 24 hours.
Some 596 patients were discharged, 484 from home-based care and 112 from health facilities.
On a sad note, four more patients succumbed, bringing the number of fatalities to 1, 618.
