Olympics: Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has called upon the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to probe the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) and “unearth several malpractices during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics two months ago”.

“It seems the ghost of corruption, mismanagement of sports continues to haunt us since the Rio 2016 scandal,” Cherargei said.

“I have gathered information that there were probably more officials than athletes and that federation officials were being treated to the Tokyo trip as an inducement ahead of NOC-K elections this month so that they can vote for the current office bearers and ensure status quo remains,” he added.

NOC-K acting Secretary General Francis Mutuku refuted the claims and said it was impossible to carry someone who did not have roles at Tokyo.

“NOC-K will issue a comprehensive report on the issue once the Tokyo report is out and we will explain each person’s role at the Games.

We will be very happy to respond to all concerns,” Mutuku told People Sport.
