Govt directs return of co-curriculum activities in schools

The Ministry of Education (MOE) has directed all Regional, County, and Sub-County Directors of Education directing them to re-introduce co-curricular activities.
In a statement seen by People Daily Digital, MOE’s Principal Secretary Julius Juan said the Ministry of Health developed the Covid-19 safety protocols that will enable the gradual and safe resumption of Co-curricular activities in educational institutions.
“The guidelines were later presented to National Co-curricular Activities Steering Committee and the Regional Co-curricular Activities Management Committees. These protocols have been cascaded to all levels and disseminated to all schools,” the statement read in part.

On October 18, 2021, the Ministry of Health recommended that inter-school sporting activities may gradually resumer with strict adherence to the current guidelines prepared by MOE.
In the statement, MOE said that the initial focus would be on no-contact/low contact activities as guided in the protocols.
“In view of the above development, the Ministry of Education advises the Principals to engage learners in Internal co-curricular activities and guided inter-school contests over the weekend and after classes,” the statement read.
