It will offer free treatment, diagnosis, screening, and chemotherapy services to all residents registered under the Universal health Coverage (UHC ) programme.
“This centre can undertake high quality diagnosis and provide chemotherapy. In the next budget, we will include purchase of a Sh300 million radiotherapy machine,” said Governor Alfred Mutua.
“Our strategy is to have several diagnostic and treatment centres spread all over the county within the next three years,” he added.
The Governor said residents within the South Eastern Kenya Economic Bloc (Sekeb) will access treatment at special rates while other Kenyans will enjoy subsidised rates at the facility.
He said enough manpower, including oncologists, surgeons and other experts, has been engaged to ensure all residents benefit from the project.
Mutua commended President Uhuru Kenyatta’s passion for affordable healthcare countrywide, saying the UHC concept could be achieved.
