Gor Mahia are keen to maintain momentum in the title chase following their recent 1-0 win over 2010 Champions Ulinzi FC in their first match of the 2020/21 BetKing Premier League.

The 19-time champions face traditional rivals, 11-time champions Tusker FC, in a mid-week match today afternoon at Moi International Sports Centre,Kasarani.

Stakes are high for both sides considering that Tusker have only four points after three matches while Gor Mahia have three points with two matches less.

Both are viewed to be top contenders for the championship which is currently led by AFC Leopards after a strong start to the campaign.

Speaking to People Sport yesterday, Gor assistant coach Patrick Odhiambo, who was in charge of the Gor Mahia vs Ulinzi match at Nyayo National Stadium last Saturday, said they are in it to win it.

The former Sony Sugar tactician might, however, have to make changes to overcome the Brewers who were weekend 5-2 winners over Western Stima  in Kisumu.

“We are coming from two high profile matches in different competitions and we won both which is great.

However, it is evident we are still not at our best especially with fitness levels.

It is about being patient and the time will come so the players need to understand that fact.

I am happy with the mood in camp and each player wants to compete which is a good headache.

We might make tactical changes dependent on circumstances because we have two difficult matches in four days,” said the man charged handling local affairs in the absence of Brazilian tactician Roberto Oliviera Goncalves.

Meanwhile stand-out K’Ogalo goalkeeper Gad Mathews is optimistic the team will go far in every competition despite challenges.

“We are a group of professionals so despite some issues we go out there and prove ourselves on the pitch.

It is a great feeling donning the jersey of this club and I will give my all. I have been given an opportunity and despite competition, I am always on call ready because we want to go far as a group,” said Mathews.
