FC Talanta are already in celebratory mood as they anticipate life in theFootball Kenya Federation Premier League after success in the National Super League 2020/21 season. Ken Kenyatta’s side has 68 points in the bag off 35 matches with only Silibwet Leons and Gusii FC left to play this campaign. It has arguably been the biggest feat in recent times for their coach Ken Kenyatta who says all credit goes to his players for showing the mental resilience and the management for standing with the team during tough times. Kenyatta has been in the cold for six years after his previous team Ushuru FC got relegated from the premier league but that seems to be behind him as he focuses on building a force for the coming season. “Overall what worked for us was great teamwork from the office to the pitch and also the hunger of the players since day one. We had a mission and it is good we have achieved it so it is about mentally readying the players for the top league. I know we will work more on aspects like tactics and techniques so that we do not get stage fright,” said Kenyatta who has almost two decades of coaching under his belt. Team captain Jackton Onjala praised the character of the players even during tough times which marked them as astute professionals. “We have earned our stripes through merit and indeed it is credit to the effort of the players and the technical bench. It has been a long journey for this team and finally it has come home. Our mission from the start was to achieve glory and together with a good mix of experience and young talent, we have managed to beat the odds even before the league is over. We are ready for the challenge ahead and I also believe the office will strengthen based on the demands of the Coaches,” said the former Ushuru defender. Team manager Julius Sakwa has praised the management for being proactive despite a few hiccups. Talanta has in their ranks experienced players like ex-Tusker midfielder Maurice Odipo who believes experience will be key in their premier league foray next season. “The premier league needs experience and confidence which some of us will offer even in terms of supporting the young players. I believe we will go in ready and positive because football is similar regardless of status,” said Odipo. Meanwhile, all eyes are on Kenya Police and Kisumu All- Stars who share 55 points as they seek a playoff spot against Vihiga United. The two sides are currently tied on second with 55 points.
