Explore opportunities in sports to end joblessness, students told
University students across the country have been urged to embrace sports as a profession and a business venture that is capable of uplifting their fortunes.
Pius Musyoki, an official from the Zetech University Office of Career Services noted that owing to shortage of job opportunities in the country, youth should utilize their time in sports activities not only for their fitness but also as an opportunity to earn from their talents.
Speaking when the private university held its annual sporting day, Musyoki noted that sports was among main enablers of eradicating poverty and joblessness menace in the country.
He cited that participating in sports such as athletics, football, netball among others not only ensures the player keeps fit but also enables one to nurture his or her talent for earning opportunities.
At the same time, the official highlighted that sporting activities enable learners to leave learning institutions having been trained holistically to better adapt to the changing job market.
"With the high rate of joblessness in the country, exploring opportunities in talents is a surest way of fighting poverty and assuring a better future for talented students," he said.
"Sports enable students become more holistic beyond just academics. From this, our students are able to better their skills and at the same time enable them explore another aspect of life," he added.
Musyoki maintained that sports is part of the government's implementation of curriculum competence-based curriculum (CBC) program which has Arts and Sports Science.
While thanking the university management for frequently organizing sporting events, the official called on other higher learning institutions to embrace the sporting culture so as to make even learning more lively.
